Episode 10 with Liz & Greg Higgins

Marriage & Parenting During a Pandemic

View Full Transcript

Get ready for some real talk from a real couple. On today’s episode, Liz is joined by her husband, Greg Higgins. They sit down and talk about their personal experiences as husband and wife and as parents of young children while navigating a global pandemic. It’s not all pretty, it certainly wasn’t easy, and there’s still more to navigate - but if there’s one thing we hope you learn in today’s episode, it’s that a little grace, a lot of understanding, and a whole bunch of love for each other can get spouses, and parents, through a LOT together.

EPISODE NOTES:

  • It’s incredibly helpful to get educated and knowledgeable about attachment and what the formative years of a child’s life should look like - especially during a time like this.

  • Everyone - single, dating, married, parents - has had to adjust to this new normal, and with that comes growing pains. We FEEL those transitions.

  • People have taken this pandemic in one of two ways: some were inspired by the turn their life took and focused on more healthy habits or lifestyles. Others felt worry, fear, uncertainty, and were perhaps more stunted in their life or goals. Both are normal.

  • Grief is a normal emotion to feel during this time.

  • With all the life changes, the stresses and the unknowns, it’s normal for a relationship to change as well - in any area, including sex.

  • It’s important to have and to stick to boundaries during this time - decide what you are comfortable with and stick with it. Some people may understand, some may not.

  • Communicating openly through this new normal (okay, we hate that phrase, too) is key.
